LOS ANGELES -- The off-season party is in full swing for the Los Angeles Kings. Lunar Force 1 Italia . The Kings paraded the Stanley Cup through downtown Los Angeles on Monday to celebrate their second NHL title in three seasons. A raucous contingent of fans lined Figueroa Street as the Kings rode nine double-decker buses and a flatbed truck about one mile to Staples Center. They showed off the Cup, the Campbell Cup and Justin Williams Conn Smythe Trophy while confetti flew and fans gave a nonstop standing ovation to the champions. The team gathered at the arena for a sold-out rally celebrating the second championship in Kings history. Los Angeles didnt win a title in its first 43 seasons before winning twice in the last three. The Kings wrapped up the Cup with Alec Martinezs double-overtime goal on Friday night, beating the New York Rangers 3-2 to end the finals in five games. They had to win three consecutive seven-game series to reach the finals, emerging from the tough Western Conference with an overtime victory over Chicago. Los Angeles has won 10 playoff series while playing 64 post-season games over the past three seasons. "Its been a pretty incredible experience these last few years," said Martinez, who also scored the overtime goal that eliminated Chicago. "Its just as good as the first time. Maybe even better." The rally crowd wildly cheered Martinez, two-time champion coach Darryl Sutter and forward Marian Gaborik, the late-season acquisition who scored 14 goals in the playoffs. Western kicker Liram Hajrullahu was perfect on four field-goal attempts, including one from 49 yards. "Our whole team played awesome," Finch said. "My O-line bought me so much time and the receivers made some fantastic catches, so thats all you can ask for as a quarterback." Gaels quarterback Billy McPhee was 21 for 35 for 275 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Receivers Doug Corby and Justin Chapdelaine each had 82 yards and a touchdown. Queens was 7-1 in the OUA regular season with its only loss coming against the Mustangs at TD Waterhouse Stadium. Western is undefeated. "Our goal was to get to the Yates Cup game, many of the kids would have been disappointed had we not got here," said Queens head coach Pat Sheahan. "We did get here and we competed for a championship. Sometimes you have to win some big games on the road and these were the two we couldnt win against the best team." The No. 4 Gaels put up a 5-3 lead after the first quarter, but the Mustangs exploded for 45 straight points to put the game out of reach. Queens sparked its offence in the fourthh quarter as McPhee hooked up with Chapdelaine for a score and two-point conversion to bring the game to 51-21. Air Force 1 Italia. The Gaels added a rouge for the final score. The Gaels Justin Baronaitis led all defensive players on the day with 13.5 tackles while Westerns Preston Huggins had eight tackles and an interception. The victory marks Western head coach Greg Marshalls 18th Yates Cup. Marshall has hoisted the trophy four times as head coach of the Mustangs, four times as head coach at McMaster, seven times as a Mustangs assistant coach and three times as a Western player.
